Macro Monday: Naughty Butterflies!

Hmm... the sights you see just walking innocently around the garden! Did I do the polite thing.... NO! I peeped!! Well, what would you do?

These butterflies are even more striking in person. The white spots are actually metallic silver (like foil) and I don't have the foggiest idea how to get the silver to show in a photo. Any ideas?

In real time the butterflies seemed static but not so... as the photos reveal.

The wingtips are a bit blurry but I love the background-- reminds me of a Monet painting.

The wings look better here and still have some background flowers but my house is in it too! Drat!! Yes, I could have cropped it out but couldn't bear to chop off the antennae.

Autumn Flutterbys and More

Been reading Winnie the Poo with Talon, hence the flutterbys.

So many interesting butterflies and moths in the garden this autumn. Sometimes several dozen at a time, moths mainly, covering the basil and lavender. Who knew autumn was the season for a butterfly garden?!

Unusual and pretty...

Underneath the wings are metallic silver.

Became part of Talon's catch and release program-- I tried to get the silver to show up-- it looked just like foil!


Cucumber beetle-- no curcurbits to nibble...

Petite-- the wingspan is only 1 inch

Scenes of Fall...

Mexican Mint Marigold (Mexican Tarragon) beginning to bloom. Rubbing the leaves releases the most divine anise fragrance!

Okra!

Okra blossoms are so pretty! If you are thinking they look familiar, it may be because the flowers resemble hibiscus. Okra is related to hibiscus.

Isn't the color coordinated butterfly amazing? I went out to get a shot of just an okra blossom. What a surprise to see a butterfly in it and a color coordinated one at that! Just another little lagnaippe from the garden fairy!

Just a hanging! While I was cutting and discarding large tough pods, this one caught itself. I kept trying to cut it again thinking it was hooked on...

Okra can appear so alien... What a strange plant... so prickly to pick... and sometimes slimy to eat... but so delicious!

Kat's Lavender

Isn't this a beautiful lavender...

Before my friend Kat moved to South Carolina last spring, she let me raid her garden. This lavender is large with a wide girth but didn't suffer a bit from the transplanting. It has thrived and bloomed all summer!! It is absolutely gorgeous--- Thank you, Kat!!!
